January Events in Teton Valley

Teton Valley comes alive in January with events that showcase the area’s creativity, adventure, and connection. Whether you’re marveling at snow sculptures or exploring vintage snowplanes, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy. These events also provide a great way to get involved by volunteering, offering a chance to meet others and support the nonprofit organizations that make it all happen.

Driggs Snowscapes: Art in the Snow

The 13th Annual Driggs Snowscapes, hosted by the Downtown Driggs Association in collaboration with local partners like Grand Targhee Resort, Mills Concrete, Teton Valley Health Care, and Teton Peaks Resort, runs from January 20–25, 2025, at Driggs Plaza (60 South Main Street). This free event turns snow into stunning sculptures, with teams of artists working over five days to create monumental pieces of art.

The event kicks off on January 17 with Form Filling Day, when massive equipment fills molds with over 30 tons of snow. From January 20–24, sculpting teams from the region, including a high school group, transform the snow into incredible creations, often working late under the glow of light towers.

On Saturday, January 25, the Community Block Party runs from 10 AM to 4 PM, featuring voting for the People’s and Kid’s Choice Awards, a Quick Sculpt Competition, and family-friendly activities like snow games and a big slide. Free hot drinks, cookies, and goodies from local sponsors add to the fun. The day concludes with the Awards Ceremony at 3 PM, where cash prizes and snowflake trophies are awarded to the top sculptures. Volunteers are key to making this week-long celebration a success, with opportunities to assist in setup, activities, and more.

Cap off the week at the Snow Ball on Friday, January 24, from 6–10 PM at the Driggs City Building. Dance to live music by Boot Juice, enjoy food from Captain Ron’s Smokehouse, and participate in a silent auction benefiting the Downtown Driggs Association. Tickets are $30, and costumes or extravagant attire are encouraged.

Tetonia’s Snowplane Rally: Tradition Meets Innovation

The Snowplane Rally in Tetonia highlights one of the most unique winter machines. Snowplanes, equipped with skis in the front and tracks in the back, are designed to glide over snow with speed and agility. Once essential for winter travel in the Teton Valley, these fascinating machines are celebrated at the rally, which takes place on February 24, 2025, in the heart of Tetonia.

Snowplane enthusiasts from across the country bring their custom-built machines to participate in a variety of races and challenges. Events like drag races and slalom courses test the speed and control of both the snowplanes and their drivers, providing plenty of excitement for spectators. The rally also serves as a living tribute to the valley’s history, preserving the legacy of snowplanes for future generations to enjoy.

Beyond the action on the snow, the rally is a perfect opportunity to explore Tetonia’s local charm. Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Badger Creek Café, known for serving some of the best chicken fried steak in the valley. Their warm, welcoming atmosphere and delicious meals will fuel you up for a full day of snowplane fun. After the rally, head over to Dave’s Pubb, a full bar with quintessential mountain ambiance. It’s a cozy and friendly spot to belly up to the bar, enjoy a drink, and soak in the charm of Tetonia.

Set against the stunning winter backdrop of the Teton Mountains, the Snowplane Rally is as much about community as it is about competition. Families and visitors of all ages are welcomed, and local businesses add to the festive atmosphere with warm food, drinks, and plenty of good cheer. It’s the perfect way to experience the beauty and traditions of Tetonia while enjoying one of Teton Valley’s most unique events.
